Flexible Generation

Flexible Generating plants are a critical feature of the UK energy mix by ensuring the secure and reliable supply of electricity.

The use of fast response, flexible generation has become a critical feature in the UK energy mix. These plants operate on a ‘peaking’ basis; meaning that they can be ramped up to full capacity in a matter of minutes to assist National Grid with the balancing of energy supply to demand. Peaking Plants are essential in efficiently maintaining energy security while the country negotiates the transition to a fully net-zero energy system and dependence on a greater proportion of intermittent power sources.

We specialise in the development, construction, and operation of these plants. From site origination all the way through to the sale of generating capacity and electrical energy to the market, we have a range of expertise that means we can develop, construct and operate our projects in-house to the very highest standards.

In addition, each of our projects has obtained a Capacity Market Award from National Grid ESO, the operator of the National electricity transmission network. This means they will be available to generate electricity in an emergency ‘black-out’ situation, and thereby contribute to national security of supply

Since 2020, we have successfully developed, financed, constructed, and commissioned 8 gas peaking plants with a combined generation capacity of 196MW, with an additional 103MW in construction and 250MW in late stage development.
